What is KMO? 
KMO is a computerized academic competition  in which a team of students works to answer 100-200 questions within a limited time period.  KMO competition questions are multiple choice and cover all subject areas in 15 categories. The questions involve higher level thinking skills in analysis and application as well as knowledge and comprehension. Students work as a team during competitions, discussing what their responses will be.

All students in grades 5-8 are invited to participate in the preliminaries.  A KMO tryout test is used to determine final team members.  Teacher nomination also determines who is on the teams.

KMO was designed to stimulate enthusiasm for learning and recognition for academic accomplishment. The contest runs on a classroom computer to allow all students the opportunity to compete in a large academic event without the expense of traveling to a central site. The results of the contest are tabulated into overall, state and enrollment-size rankings.
