Half-time
At Packers Game Takes On A Patriotic Flair
Today's Packers game meant more than you can imagine to a group of local young people. At half-time 150 Air Force enlistees took their oath.
"This is awesome -
have you ever been on the field before?"
Adam Davis is just feet from the sidelines.
"It's gonna be Packers by 17 today," said Davis.
Few people can get this close. Then again, few people are doing what Adam is
about to do.
"I'm proud to swear allegiance to the Air Force and my country in front of
all these supportive people," said Davis.
In this split crowd, some support the Vikes fans and most support the Pack, but
everyone is behind these guys.
"Oh man, there's a lot of people out there. It's gonna be nuts," said
new enlistee Josh Krueger.
Frozen by the wind, but warmed by the response they marched on at the half.
They take their oath in the midst of a war.
"We will win that war because of the dedication and courage of the young
men and women like those before you," Maj. Gen. Todd Stewart told
the yound enlistees.
It's events like September 11th that motivated many, like Jason Gillis, to join.
It's a promise that motivated every fan here to say 'Thank you.'
"Felt proud to be taking that oath -- especially in front of all these
people," said Gillis.
The enlistees are all from eastern Wisconsin. Some will begin their basic
training in the near future. Others are still in high school so they'll begin
training right after graduation.
